Explaining job title variations

Hi,

I work for a Fortune 500 company that has "corporate" titles and "segment" titles. Two years ago, I was promoted from a Vice President of Segment X to a Director in Corporate. (Corporate Director > Segment VP) Now I'm ready to throw my resume into full job-hunting mode, but I'm puzzled about how to position this on my resume. If I were the hiring manager, a VP-to-Director move will look like a demotion, and I wouldn't interview me.

The way HR works here, I'm technically dual-titled. I have retained my "VP of the Segment" title (along with my "Director of Corporate" title), and I'm still an officer of the Segment, so I could technically still use my old title (VP of Ops) but it doesn't accurately reflect my current job role (Audit Director).

Any suggestions, or am I worrying about nothing?

To avoid appearing as a step down, it would be fine to include both titles.  I suspect at that level it doesn't matter, because those who know your role and value know how your company titles roles...but still, it's fine to mention both under this circumstance.
